Booking System |
A booking chart for
the following calendar year is circulated in agreed priority
order before the owners’ annual meeting, where the bookings
for the next year are confirmed. Each owner has a priority
for that year, and moves up a couple of places each year:
after a year at the top of the list, the owner then starts
at the bottom, and after six years the cycle begins again.
Each owner can choose two weeks (separately or as a
fortnight) in the ‘high season’ (April to September
inclusive), and one week in the remainder of the year. By
this route, thirty-six weeks are firmly booked before the
year begins.
Allowing time for winter maintenance, the remaining fourteen
weeks are booked with priority in reverse order to the
original chart, so having last choice originally does have
its compensations.
Further weeks may be available.

Priority for school holidays |
A maximum of two shares may elect to
take school holiday preference.

General comments about the boat |
Starting at the semi trad stern, down the steps to the rear galley
and dinette area where you will find a hob and oven, full size
sink/drainer, fridge with freezer compartment, solid fuel stove,
side hatch, and dinette that converts to a double bed.
Forward to the bathroom, with a shower over a corner bath, pump out
toilet, and hand basin.
The Alde central heating boiler is located on the corridor by the
bathroom.
In the centre of the boat is the fixed double bed that extends to a
full 5’ king size. Storage is provided in wardrobes, under-bed
drawers and cubby-holes.
Forward again there is a second pump-out toilet (or extra storage
area), and then into the front lounge area with flat screen TV/DVD.
This versatile space has two benches that can be used as single
beds, or be converted into a large 6’ double. There are wide opening
French windows which lead out to the cratch area with no change of
floor level.

The other shareholders are
a nice bunch, several of them have owned a share on Soulbury
since she was launched. We have an annual meeting in
September or October, where we talk through arrangements for
the following year. Everyone gets the chance to chip in, and
decisions are made on a majority vote.
We have just arrived at Aqueduct (2018) and usually stay at
a marina for two years to give everyone the chance to fully
explore the area, before moving on.
In February 2016 Soulbury was fitted with a new Beta marine
engine and gearbox. Extra cooling capacity that the new
engine required was also incorporated. The stern gear has
also been replaced. This work will ensure the mechanic
aspects of the boat will be very sound for many years to
come. The bottom was blacked at the same time.
The roof of Soulbury was professionally painted last year,
and a new cratch cover made and fitted. Annual winter
maintenance and safety checks have just been completed by
the boatyard, which included a new charger unit, new larger
(and much more efficient!) calorifier, new rear sliding
hatch cover, new washbasin in the main bathroom, and the
toilet pipes replacing.
Overall, she is a comfortable and homely boat, with the
advantage of the reverse layout offering two separate living
areas. Especially good with teenage children!
