Booking System |
A booking
chart for the following calendar year is circulated immediately
after the owners’ annual meeting. Each owner has a priority for that
year, and moves up one place each year: after a year at the top of
the list, the owner then starts at the bottom, and after six years
the cycle begins again. Each owner can choose four weeks in the
‘high season’ (April to September inclusive), and two weeks in the
remainder of the year. By this route, thirty-six weeks are firmly
booked before the year begins. The aim is to ensure that each owner
can have a four week block in high season. If an owner wishes to
split their four weeks they are expected to consult with the other
owners below them on the booking chart to ensure that their choice
does not prevent another owner from taking a four week block.
Allowing for time for winter maintenance, the remaining weeks are
booked with priority in reverse order, so having last choice
originally does have its compensations. |

General Comments by vendor
|
Swallowtail owners are a very
friendly and proactive group with a 'hands on' attitude when it
comes to maintaining the boat. The superb condition of
Swallowtail is testament to this.
The engine is serviced professionally every month.
The boat is equipped with duvets and pillows which are renewed
every spring, a full set of Nicholson Guides (new Sept 2012),
vacuum cleaner, toolbox, landline and carbon monoxide detector.
There is an annual owners meeting when owners agree expenditure,
improvements and moorings for the following year. We make all
decisions jointly and communicate regularly, mainly by email.
Owners are required to agree the terms which are laid down in a
Syndicate Agreement. This is a realistic document designed to
safeguard all aspects of shared ownership and a copy of this may
be seen by arrangement with the vendors.
Because the Swallowtail owners are
proud of their boat and wish to maintain her in top condition,
the Syndicate Agreement makes it a condition of sale that new
owners have had at least two weeks of narrowboat hiring or
ownership experience (or equivalent) in the last two years.
