Dorney is now based in Lagarde on
the Canal du Marne au Rhine in the Alsace- Lorraine region, a
picturesque area about 4-5 cruising days from Strasbourg with many
opportunities for stops in vibrant French villages along the way,
with plenty of eateries and some French Markets. there is also the
added interest of Rechicourt, the deepest lock in Europe and the
inclined plane at Arzviller.
Strasbourg is a beautiful historic city and definitely worth a visit
all year round and travelling in the other direction takes one to
Nancy and on towards Metz.
In the Marina where she is based there is a chandlery with basic
supplies and a very good restaurant. Supermarkets are a short drive
away.
The area has good access, an 8 hour easy drive from Calais,
reasonable flights and good train links.
Dorney is well managed
by a friendly syndicate, she is kept up to scratch on an annual
basis. The shareholders meet annually in early November when
financial and maintenance reports are presented and budgets agreed
for the following year as part of an AGM.
Owners are in regular contact by
email and weeks not used can be exchanged or offered to other owners
for use.
Owning a share in Dorney is a wonderful, relaxing and comfortable
way of exploring the delights of the French waterways on a much
admired beautiful Dutch barge.
