General comments about the boat | ||
Protea has a trad stern; as you enter the boat from the stern you pass through the small engine room, with limited storage and into the aft cabin which has a double divan bed with storage drawers below and a three foot wardrobe. Walking on through the boat you come to the bathroom with shower, washbasin and chemical/cassette WC. Opposite the bathroom door is a double-door side hatch with roof access. Next you enter the main cabin with the kitchen on the left hand side this has a full-size 4-ring gas hob, modern gas cooker and grill and electric fridge. The main appliances are in good order and were replaced within the last few years. To the right there is a storage cupboard and there is shelving above the sink. The main saloon then follows with a multi-fuel stove, double sofa bed and further storage cupboard. The steps up to the front doors provide useful additional storage. Through the front doors is the canvas covered cratch-area with the water tank below. At the bow is the gas locker holding two gas bottles. Protea is a basic but comfortable boat for relaxation and as such there is no TV or internet provision on board. Power for mobile phones etc is via 2x 12v sockets. |

Protea is a basic but
comfortable boat for relaxation and as such there is no TV

The boat was fully repainted two years ago (2013) and the boat benefits from a regular programme of maintenance. With just three co-owners the share arrangement is able to be flexible over the choice of weeks and cruising routes, to a large extent the co-owners accommodate each other. As such, this is a share for people who want to have a say in how things are done and who appreciate a flexible approach. There are no ‘out and back to base’ rules, within reason the next crew takes over from wherever you end your holiday. This way you get to experience a wide range of canals and waterways. Each crew is responsible to ensure the boat is left clean, fuel and water tanks are filled and the toilet emptied, ready for the hand-over. Each of the co-owners currently contributes £100/month to a general fund which pays for licensing, insurance and annual maintenance etc. It has also accumulated a surplus over time which can be used to fund exceptional purchases in whole or part. Fund accumulated in the general fund remain with the boat and are not available for distribution on any sale. The contribution to the general fund is agreed between the co-owners. The
engine was replaced in 2001 (Approximately)
